Lillie Stories

I can’t post photos – that’s Shad’s domain- but I have Lillie stories.

Lillie is just running around all the time. She is great at giving kisses, although she has started to ration them and the fish in our aquarium seem to get a disporpotionate amount.

When we tell her that we are going to change her diapers she jumps up and runs down the hall, trying to get us to chase her. And she signs “potty”. Now we just have to get her to sign in before she needs to go instead of signing it while she is going.

Lillie is a great sister to Sophie. They are already to the point that they can play together. They color and dress up and play dolls. I think they both enjoy having each other.

Lil still only has 6 teeth. They all came in at once and she hasn’t gotten another one since. That’s fine with me however. I’ve heard that the longer it takes them to grow in, the stronger the teeth are. Also, I’m still breastfeeding

Last night, at Gromper’s birthday party, Lillie danced around and got very excited to help Gromper open presents.

Lillie also understands everything you say around her, she signs and tries to communicate and she can find the mousie in her board book.

Audience and Applause Wanted

Yesterday, Lillian tried to use the neighboor’s bathroom. So today I went out and got her a potty.

We set it up, put it in the bathroom and ever faithful, Sophie and Mommy showed her how to use it. And she did! Lillie used the toilet! Of course we clapped and clapped and fussed on her. The sticking point here is that we don’t have a sign for going to the bathroom right now. So we just have to take her in there and set her on the potty whenever we go. Which is working– she’s gone two more times! She’s good about sitting on it and waiting while we go and not just playing around. But you’d better clap afterward or her motivation goes down the…

Oh, man, Lillie is going to kill me for this in about 10 years. But right now, you will all think it’s funny, so I’m going to go with it.

Lillie has started showing a lot of awareness about using her diaper. When we pull out the diaper changing stuff or tell her that it’s time to change her pants, she walks away, squats down, does her thing and then comes over for a changing.  She can also sign to us that she wants to have her diapers changed (which she also does before she fills them). So we decided that it’s time to introduce her to the idea of the bathroom, we are not potty training her per se, rather we are letting her know where WE go and getting her comfortable with it.

So the opportunity presented itself the other day and I took Lillie into the bathroom, took her diaper off, held her on the toilet and talked to her about going to the bathroom and all that stuff. She didn’t go, so I took her off and set her down and then though that I would show her what I was talking about. I sat down on the toilet and said all that embarressing stuff about how Mommy is going pee-pee. Lillie looked at me like she understood. She smiled. She watched. She squatted down. She peed all over the bathroom rug.

At least she seems to know that we do it in the bathroom, right? Progress?
